The Class VI Board Examination 2025 recorded an overall pass percentage of 87.79 percent, reflecting strong performance by students across the country. A total of 13,899 students appeared for the national-level assessment, with 113 schools achieving a 100 percent pass rate, highlighting continued progress in foundational learning and academic support at the primary and middle school levels.

Leading the national rankings, Dendup Dema of Mongar Middle Secondary School secured the top position with an outstanding score of 97 percent. Reena Rana of Dagapela Middle Secondary School followed in second place with 96.25 percent, while Jinpa Lhamo of Moshi Primary School stood third with 96 percent. Their achievements reflect dedication, consistent effort, and the support of teachers and schools in maintaining high academic standards.

The results indicate encouraging improvements in student performance and learning outcomes, showcasing the commitment of schools, educators, and parents in strengthening early education across Bhutan.

Sangay Dorji, Principal of Mongar Middle Secondary School, said, “We have instituted various support mechanisms for students who perform academically well as well as for those who face academic challenges, so that they are able to manage stress while maintaining their academic standards consistently throughout the year.”

He explained that the school takes a holistic approach, focusing on both academic excellence and emotional support. “The faculty works to create an environment where students are not only guided to improve their performance but also given the tools to manage stress and build resilience. The school offers personalized sessions to help students plan, set goals, and strategize ways to enhance their performance each term, ensuring that no student feels left behind,” he added.

He further noted, “We organize celebrations of success within the school by awarding certificates and prizes to academically excelling students, and during conferences with toppers from all grade levels and sections, they share their success stories to inspire and motivate others.”

Sangay Tenzin, Principal of Dagapela Middle Secondary School, said, “We have instituted various support mechanisms for students who perform academically well as well as for those who face academic challenges, so that they are able to manage stress while maintaining their academic standards consistently throughout the year. At the same time, we guide them in planning and strategising ways to improve their performance further with each term.”

He added, “The school places equal emphasis on encouragement, recognition, and continuous academic guidance to help students stay motivated and confident in their learning journey, while ensuring that no child feels left behind. We organise celebrations of success within the school by awarding certificates and prizes to academically excelling students, and during conferences with toppers from all grade levels and sections, they share their success stories to inspire and motivate others. In addition, we conduct regular grooming sessions for both toppers and academically challenged students led by subject teachers, mentors, class teachers, and the management, and our strong team of staff continues to work collaboratively towards the shared goal of sustaining consistent performance.”

Yam Kumar Rana, the uncle of Reena Rana, said, “I always reminded her that she was not only preparing for the Class VI board examination but also preparing for her future, where there is competition among thousands, so emotional and moral support from home was very important. Her biggest inspiration was also her competitive classmate who had equal potential, and I kept encouraging her by constantly telling her, ‘You can do it,’ while making sure she got proper rest and maintained her well-being, because consistency was the key.”

He said they focused on simple but effective routines at home such as revising all class lessons on the same day, practicing past question papers, setting small and achievable daily targets, and strictly limiting screen time to avoid distractions. He added that subject teachers also supported her throughout, especially when she was adjusting to a new environment and needed encouragement to participate more actively in class.

He reflected, “Being in a new environment was not easy for her at first, as she was quiet in the classroom and needed motivation to open up and take part, but with support from teachers and family she gradually adapted. For me, the key takeaway is that every child has equal potential, and what truly matters is consistent hard work, discipline, a strong support system from parents and teachers, along with dedication, integrity, and perseverance.”

Reena Rana, the second position holder, expressed, “I would like to express my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to my teachers for their constant guidance, patience, and belief in me, and to my wonderful classmates for their positive learning spirit that truly helped me achieve this success. I also offer my deepest gratitude to His Majesty the King, my living God, for His profound vision and continued blessings in providing free education.”

Sangay Dorji, class teacher of Jinpa Lhamo of Moshi Primary School, shared, “Teachers and staff play a vital role in nurturing top-performing students by providing quality teaching, clear explanations, and regular practice opportunities to strengthen their understanding. We identify students’ strengths and weaknesses early, offer extra support and remedial classes, and help them build good study habits, confidence, and discipline through continuous guidance, reading activities, and close collaboration with parents.”

He added, “The school also motivates other students by celebrating the topper’s achievement, sharing her success story during assemblies and programmes, and encouraging learners to set academic goals, follow positive study routines, and believe that success can be achieved through dedication and commitment.”

He concluded, “As a class teacher, I did not notice any major challenges throughout the year as she was always active, happy, and consistent in her studies. She was always ready to answer during recapitulation and revision lessons, which showed she was constantly in learning mode, and from this I was confident she would perform very well and become a topper in the Class VI Board Examination, which we are now very proud to celebrate.”
