Bank of Bhutan (BOB) is now launching core banking system (CBS) in Trashiyangtse from May 17.
“It will help customers of BOB in Trashiyangtse as BOB being a government bank, has a social mandate to increase customer services in the remotest parts of Bhutan,” said Dr. Dil Bahadur, deputy managing director of Bank of Bhutan.
When BHUTAN TODAY talked to people in Trashiyangtse, they expressed their happiness over the introduction of core banking in the dzongkhag.
“Now, I don’t have to carry cash every where I go. I will be on the safer side. With the introduction of core banking in our dzongkhag I can withdraw money from any branch of BOB in Bhutan,” said Kuenzang, a teacher in Yangtse lower secondary school.
Ugyen who works in Bhutan Oil Distributor (BOD) said that customers will get in touch with modern technology to transfer and check their bank balance.
It is the most convenient and safe technology adopted by Bank of Bhutan, said Dechenla, a businessman.
In 2009, eight branches were connected to CBS and now BOB is targeting 13 more branches to be connected in 2010, from which three branches are already launched and Trashiyangtse is going to be the fourth branch for the year.
Mongar, Lhuentshe, Pemagatsel, Dewathang, Samtse, Gedu, Gomtu, Tshimasham and Samdrupjongkhar are next on the list, said Dr. Dil Bahadur.
