BHUTANESE DREAM OF MORE MEDALS IN BOXING SHATTERED

The dream of winning more medals in boxing for Bhutan was shattered when the last three boxers were all defeated in the quarter finals at the ongoing 11th SA Games here in Dhaka.

Bhutanese boxer Chencho lost to Khalid of Afghanistan 9:6 in the Feather-56kg category, Girchungla to Nepal’s Ajit 8:1 in the Light-60kg category and Sonam Thinley to Afghanistan’s Fayaz 12:8 in Light Welter-64kg category yesterday.

“I fought my best, I guess I didn’t get much points even though I threw many punches,” said Thinley.

However, two bronze medals are already confirmed in boxing. And if the two boxers win the semifinals then they go through to the finals confirming silver medal.

“Let’s hope for the best,” said the boxing coach.

Meanwhile, the semi finals of the Fly-51kg and Bamtam-54kg category will take place today. Bhutan’s Kinley will fight against Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem and Bhutan’s Sigyel against Kamal Sameera of Sri Lhanka to confirm the silver and fight in the finals.
